Lets start from the beginning...

For as far back as I can remember my mom used to have fabric all over her HUGE sewing room and the house.  Oh how I remember her room, well I think I remember it.  There used to be so many shelf units all lined up down the room, I think there were three rows and in the corner was my moms industrial sewing machine.

My brother Louis and I used to climb into them and play.  I don't remember my mom getting mad, even in later years when I would just slam my foot on the foot press of the machine and jam it up.  I was a brat.

Then there was a death in the family, I was 4 years old, 3 months from being the big 05.  My mom says the man who died was my dad, although, I can't say I believe it.  That's a story for another time.

We moved in with my aunt, all 6 of us, mom, aunt, and my three brothers.  We had a little infant.  You see, when my "dad" died my mom was pregnant with my little brother.  Dad passed away September 25th, my little brother, Sinai, was born January 10th.

We were kicked out of the house, that's when we moved in with my aunt, her boyfriend and two kids.  Boy was it cramped, but we made due.  We were there until my mom bought our house.  She brought most of her stuff with her.  She didn't have the same space she'd had before.  No big deal, she made due.

She continued to sew wedding dressing and sweet 16 dresses, quincenera dresses,  I need to put a squiggly on the n...then one day there was no more.

Almost 30 years later, she still has most of the fabric, can't forget the lace and machine.  Throughout the past couple years she had been struggling with her house.  She mad a bad decision and the price was her two homes.  She worked so hard.  I helped, we used to sell food out of the trunk of her car, in swap-meets and even in the parking lot of a juvenile detention center.  It was not a totally "memorable" event.  But again, she made due.  After all that, she lost it all, but they're only possessions right?  Our family is still together.

So now here we are, in present time, two houses lost.  Her things still mostly intact and all the fabric she has accumulated through out the years up for grabs... YAY ME!!!

I loved my moms fabrics so much that I brought about half of them to my house.  I washed them and put them away.  Recently I found out she had more put in storage, oh that lady, such a hoarder.  Really she's a hoarder.

I love my mom and I'm sure I get my creative spark from her.

Now most of the pieces are a pretty good size, others not so much and some are to small to make any clothing out of.

So what did I do?  I made flowers.  I now had all the fabric I need to make as many flowers as my heart desires.  I came up with new ways to make flowers so that they don't all look the same, that was a huge deal for me.

Now, to close on my mother for now, she did lose both homes and is moving in with my brother until she comes to my place.  At some point she will have her own place, her sewing machine, her fabrics and her sister to just relax and not worry about anything.  Well almost anything.

So what else do I do besides these flowers??? EVERYTHING.  Anything I can make I make.  I am also that person that hates to throw away scraps, you never know when you'll need a .5 x 3 in piece of paper...do you??? No, you don't.

So now I'm a hoarder.  Which has coincidentally led me to this new blog of mine, Embellish My Scraps...well what does that mean?  Well, it's using your scraps to make embellies.  If you're not going to throw then away, use them, but really use them.  Or do what I'm doing and give them away, yup, I'm giving them away.

You might think this is crazy, why would you want my scraps, we'll, you want my scraps because you can make the cutest embellies with them, duh!  As I mentioned, I am giving them away, for free.  The only thing you would cover is the actual shipping cost.  I'm not even charging for the envelope to mail them in.

There is nothing behind this other than me wanted to spread the love as much as I can.  I know how tough it is to not have enough money to get what you want or need.  Remember, I sold food out of our trunk so that we would have a place to live.

I am grateful for the things I have and I want to share.  I use scarps for everything pretty much.

So what is this really?  Well, every month I plan to have a certain amount of "kits" available for free, again, you just pay for shipping.  To put your mind at ease I'll even print the shipping cost on the label so that you can see for yourself that there are no hidden fees or agendas.  The kits can contain anything form fabric to lace, paper cut outs beads, pearls, even the flat-back kind and paper to name a few.  I will post a picture of the "kit" with a tutorial of some of the embellies you can make with them.   Simple as that.

The reason why I chose to do it this way was because I just can't pay for shipping for all of these.  I'd like to get up to send over 20 a month if i can but that can be pricey.  Especially if shipping is up to $3+, that's potential over $60.  You would also get a tracking #.  Once I mail them out they will be out of my hands and in the trusting hands of our mail people.

More details to follow in the next post.

So there it is.  I plan on staring this next month at some point once my mom s settled.

I have to get this to people too, we'll see how that goes.

Well, until next time,

Luane
